Touch

This is the second, and final album for EuroVision, as the band members Joe Ramey and Michael Allred parted ways before the release of this album. However, the parting was amicable, and the members agreed that the material they had been working on was worth release. So we have here a collection of 16 tracks, including some previously unreleased remixes of tracks from the debut album, and even a new version of "Welcome To The World", a track that was also on the Brand New Day album "Starting Over".

This album has a overall darker tone to it than the debut album, part of which I'm sure is due to the circumstances of the album, but there also seems to be a conscious effort here to reflect the less hopeful times in life. The songs still sound somewhat muffled at times, so the sound issues I mentioned on the previous album haven't all been resolved, but have been improved on somewhat.

One thing to especially note is that the time working apart has definitely improved the duo's songwriting skills, as just about every song presented here is quite impressive. In particular, "Tonight", "Without You", "Night & Day", and "Forever Is Never Enough" start off the album in excellent form. "Creature Of The Night" is more of a spoken word track than sung, and to my ears sounds just a bit pretentious.

From there, it's not until the ballad "Thinking Of You" that another track really stood out to me. "Thinking Of You" has a nice, subdued tone to the ballad that works quite well. The remixes here include a even darker, more electronic version of "Without You" that I found very impressive, Foretaste remixes of the two single tracks from the previous album (both quality remixes), and a discordant mix of "Without You (I Just Don't Belong)" that doesn't work very well. The album closes with a very impressive EuroVision version of "Welcome To The World", honestly Mike's vocals just suit this song so much better than the the vocalist on the BND album.

Overall, this album is a definite improvement over the first, with stronger songs, and a obvious maturing in the sound. While this is the finale for the band, they certainly go out on top, giving us a diverse and expansive album that shows all the talent and promise this project had, and looking forward to the future solo ventures of both artists.

Todd's opinion:

EuroVision "Finale" $15 -- This is the 2nd album by EuroVision, and this time the sound is a bit more edgy, though still in the melodic synthpop vein. The songs are still primarily about love and lost love, but sound a bit less like the ballads on the first album, with a more prominent beat and depth to the programing. It's a nice progression from this American synthpop act.

My opinion of Finale!

In the end of Jason's review of "Finale", he mentioned the diverse songs from "Finale" and it really dawned on me, that outside of Mike's vocals, this was really like another Brand New Day album, because I wrote over 90% of the music and even lyrics for this album, or 10 of the 16 tracks.. Whereas the first album "On Fire", I wrote the lyrics to one song and the music of only 4 of the 10 songs, so I got to apply more writing to the second CD and it turned out great, my only regret is that I didnt promote this CD to the public more, as it was the better of the 2 EV albums, Just like Jason said in his review. Pick up a copy today to see for yourself.

Artwork was done by Hiroshi Rodriguez, an artist I found out about while vacationing one year in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA with my family. I bought 3 pieces of art from him, one is for the album "Finale", one for "On Fire" and another one still hasnt been used, YET. :-)
